ART, CULTURE & CELEBRATIONS :

Celebrations & art are integral part of Kerala culture & heritage. The celebrations of Kerala have no religious or regional boundaries. The most spectacular Keralite celebration is the Onam which comes in august/September every year.

Among the dance forms:

  • Theyyam of northern Kerala & Padayani of south-central Kerala have originated from ancient customs and beliefs of the indigenous people

  • Kathakali, koodiyattam, mohiniyattam etc are classical dance forms of Kerala.

  • Solo dance forms like ottanthullal & performing arts like koothu have a strong element of ridicule & social criticism delivered in a pleasing manner.

  • Thiruvathira kali, margamkali, oppana are group dance forms perfomed on occasions by women of Hindu, Christian & Muslim communities respectively. These are related to their customs and beliefs

Dances of Kerala have a strong influence of kalarippayattu (traditional martial arts of Kerala)
